If you’ve opted out of having wall to wall carpet in one or more of the rooms in your home then you have likely chosen to decorate with a mixture of area rugs and smaller decorative ones. Remember that they need to be cleaned regularly, just as wall to wall carpet would. Today Cleanpro Cleveland Professionals would like to help you know just how to go about that by providing you with a few tips on cleaning and caring for the rugs in your home.

Everyday Cleaning Tips:
- Your rugs will benefit from being vacuumed on a regular basis, of course if you’ve got small rugs you can take them outside to shake them out as well
- You may consider using a pet hair remover if you’ve got pets in your home
- If you’ve got large area rugs in the home, remember that you’ll want to turn them at least once a year
  • with natural or artificial light hitting one side of the rug more strongly, you’re likely to see that side begin to fade
  • likewise, if you’ve got heavy furniture or a lot of foot track on one side, that side will begin to exhibit signs of wear and tear much more quickly
- Washing small rugs in the washing machine should only be done if the attached tag recommends it
- For large rugs, such as area rugs, you’ll want to only spot clean them and use products specifically geared toward that type of rug

Specific Set in Stains:
- Melted wax and/or gum can be removed from your rugs by the following method:
  • Peel off as much as possible with a spoon or dull knife
  • Fill a plastic bag with ice and get the remaining material as cold as possible
  • When the material is hardened, attempt to peel it off again
- Beverage stains can be removed by making a special stain remover:
  • Use 1 teaspoon of dishwashing detergent
  • 1 quart of warm water
  • ¼ teaspoon of white vinegar
  • Combine in a spray bottle and apply to the affected area
  • Blot to remove the excess liquid
- For paint stains, there are two options, depending on the type of paint it is
  • Oil based paints-
  • using a sponge, soak up the remainder of the paint
  • Acrylic or latex based paints-
  • use the detergent solution mentioned above
  • blot the area, using rubbing alcohol
