If you’ve noticed your flooring is past its best, and you’re thinking about replacing your carpets, you may find yourself bemused by the amount of options available. Let Cleanpro in Cleveland walk you through the different carpets available to you and offer you some tips.

Padding

First things first, you need to make sure to invest in decent padding. Many people are unaware of the importance of the padding underneath their carpets. Your padding provides cushioning which not only makes your carpet more comfortable but also helps prevent wear and tear. It also provides an extra layer of insulation which can contribute to a more efficient home and lower utility bills. A good rule of thumb is to aim for padding with 8 lbs of density per cubic foot.

Materials

There are a number of different materials available, and all have their own pros and cons:
Nylon - Fairly soft and very durable, nylon is an extremely popular carpeting choice. It’s  comparatively inexpensive, but as a synthetic fiber it is not particularly environmentally-friendly.
Polyester - Polyester can be dyed almost any color imaginable, and it takes a very long time to fade. This carpeting is often created from recycled materials, meaning it’s more eco-friendly than nylon and other synthetics, but it is less durable and is prone to flattening over time.
Polypropylene - A cheaper, less soft, alternative to nylon. This material is extremely durable, but this comes at a cost to its level of comfort.
Wool - Natural, soft, and extremely hard-wearing, wool is the luxury choice for carpeting. It is, however, susceptible to staining so is unsuitable if you’re likely to experience a lot of spills and mess. It’s also one of the most expensive carpeting options.

Consider your needs

The most important thing is to keep your requirements in mind while choosing your carpet. Don’t be fooled into spending more money than you need to, as there is a cut-off point where spending more money won’t bring an increase in quality. Think about what you need from your carpet. If you have children and/or pets, you’ll need a stain-resistant carpet. If it’s being installed in a very high-traffic area, the carpeting needs to be durable. Don’t buy an unsuitable carpet just because you love the look of it, as you’ll soon regret it!

Once you’ve invested in new carpeting, you’ll no doubt want to ensure it lasts for as long as possible. One of the best ways to make sure your carpet has a long and happy life is to have it professionally deep-cleaned at least once a year.
